Key points
  • A profile is you as a person. A Page is your firm. They are different things, even if your profile carries the firm's name.
  • Facebook's publishing API works with Pages. That is why a scheduling tool asks for a Page and cannot post to your personal profile.
  • A Page is free and takes about two minutes to create from your existing Facebook login. You do not need a second account.
  • Your personal profile stays private and separate. Posts go out in the Page's name, and followers do not see your personal timeline.
  • A Page can have more than one person managing it, so the firm does not depend on one person's login. Keep full control with at least two partners.

Many practitioners have been on Facebook for years. So when a scheduling tool says "you need a Facebook Page", the natural reply is: "But I already have Facebook." What you have is a personal profile, and that is a different thing. This guide explains the difference, why tools need a Page, and what happens to your personal account when you create one. Short answer: nothing happens to it.

Profile and Page: what is the difference?

Personal profileFacebook Page
Who it representsYou, as a personYour firm
People connect byBecoming friendsFollowing
Can a scheduling tool post to it?NoYes
Shows post insightsNoYes
Can several people manage it?NoYes, with different levels of access

A profile renamed "Sharma & Associates" is still a profile. It has the firm's name, but Facebook still treats it as a person, and apps still cannot post to it.

Why scheduling tools need a Page

Scheduling tools publish through Facebook's Pages API, and that API is built around Pages: the app posts to a specific Page on behalf of someone who manages it. There is no equivalent approved route for posting to your personal timeline. This is the same for every scheduling tool, so changing tools will not solve it.

That is also why Facebook's sign-in screen asks you which Pages to share with the app. If you do not have one, there is nothing to choose, and the connection cannot finish.

Why a firm should have a Page anyway

Even without any tool, a Page is the better home for a practice:

  • Your personal life stays separate. Clients can follow the firm without seeing your family photos, and you do not have to accept their friend requests.
  • People can check you. Someone who hears your firm's name may look it up. A Page with your address, working hours and recent due-date reminders answers their questions.
  • You can see what works. A Page shows how many people saw each post.
  • It does not depend on one person. More than one person can manage a Page, and you can remove someone's access when they leave.
  • It follows Facebook's rules. Profiles are meant for real people under their own names. Running a business as a profile puts the account at risk of restriction.

Common worries

Will my friends or clients see my personal profile?

Your personal account controls the Page behind the scenes, but posts appear in the Page's name. Followers of the Page do not get access to your personal timeline. Your profile's privacy settings stay as they are.

Do I need a new Facebook account?

No, and you should not make one. Facebook expects one personal account per person. You create the Page from your existing login.

Does a Page cost anything?

No. Creating and posting on a Page is free. Ads are optional.

I don't use Facebook much. Do I still need this?

You do not have to post on Facebook at all. One connected account is enough to start using OneClick Scheduler, so you can begin with Instagram, LinkedIn or Google and add Facebook later. But a Page takes two minutes, and once connected it can run without you opening Facebook.

Create a Page in two minutes

  1. Log in to Facebook with your own account and open Create a Page, or go to Menu → Pages → Create in the app.
  2. For the name, use the firm's name as registered, such as "Mehta & Associates, Chartered Accountants". Do not add slogans.
  3. For the category, type "accountant" or "tax" and choose the closest match.
  4. Add your address, hours and phone number, or do this later.
  5. For the profile picture, use a partner's photograph or the firm name in plain text. ICAI bars firm logos and monograms on any media, including the internet.
  6. When Facebook offers to invite your friends, skip it. ICAI para 3.3.12 says members should not solicit people to visit or like their page.

The full setup, including image sizes and staff access, is in our Facebook Page guide for CA firms.

Already have a Page? Check these two things

  • Do you have full control? If a designer, former employee or colleague created it, ask them to give you full control under Page → Settings → Page access. Without it, the Page will not appear when you connect.
  • Is it in Meta Business Suite? Pages inside a Meta Business portfolio are often hidden from apps. This is the most common reason we see for a Page not showing up. The fix is in Facebook Page not showing when you connect it.

Once that is clear, open Connected accounts in OneClick Scheduler, press Connect on Facebook, log in with your Facebook email or mobile number, tick your Page and keep every permission switched on.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't a scheduling tool post to my personal Facebook profile?

Scheduling tools publish through Facebook's Pages API, which is built around Pages and the people who manage them. Your personal timeline is not available through it, whichever tool you use.

Do I need a separate Facebook account to create a Page?

No. Create the Page from your existing personal account. You stay in control of the Page, and your profile stays as it is.

Will people who follow my Page see my personal posts?

No. Posts on the Page appear in the Page's name, and following a Page does not give access to your personal timeline.

Can I just rename my profile to my firm's name?

That does not help. It is still a profile, apps still cannot post to it, and Facebook expects profiles to be real people under their own names. Create a Page instead.

Is it compulsory to connect Facebook to use OneClick Scheduler?

No. One connected account is enough to start, so you can begin with Instagram, LinkedIn or Google Business Profile and add Facebook later.
